Snow Part 2

I fell on the ice the other day.  I lay there looking at the clouds above me for a few moments.  It was calm, peaceful even, as I contemplated life after a bang on the backside of the head.  I was rather annoyed that I had to get out of the truck in the first place; what should have been a 10 minute salting job for my two guys (and a little snooze for me) had turned into a half hour "shovel out what some other crew had missed" job.  Slipping over and landing on my head was like the icing on the cake of a 23 hour shovelling shift.

Anyhow, laying there on my back I ran a brief self check to make sure I hadn't really hurt myself.  Had I blacked out?  Not that I could recall.  Was I seeing stars?  Nope, just clouds.  Did I feel sick?  Sure did, but 23 hours in the snow explained that.  And as I got up, I thought to myself "Why am I still doing this job?"  I guess the bang on the head must have made me smarter.  Still, I was into work the next day, so I guess it wore off pretty soon.

Snow Part 1

It's coming up to midnight, and snow work begins again soon. The boss was nice enough to give us Christmas day off, but in 45 minutes it will no longer be Christmas day, and I will be out again clearing snow - the remainder of the snow that fell on Friday. It's the snowiest December on record in Minnesota.

How true it is that you think of the best answers after you could have used them. So this morning when Rachel told me "that wasn't a very long shower", I replied "Well, no longer than usual".

This is easy to explain - most of the time anyhow. In Spring, when your car is warm, you roll the windows down. In Summer, you turn on the A/C. Which is an astute observation, but on that is perhaps best not shared with someone who responds "My car doesnt have working A/C".
